HBCU Sports: Volleyball Players of the Week: October 31
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Prairie View A&M libero Christen Augustine and setter Erica Jimenez, and Texas Southern middle blocker Kirby Anderson been recognized as Southwestern Athletic Conference Volleyball Players of the Week for their standout performances in matches played from Oct. 23-30.
Offensive Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week- Kirby Anderson, Texas Southern
Jr. | 5-11 | MB | Duncanville, Texas
Anderson put away 30 kills and hit .449 during Texas Southern’s two matches this week. In Sunday’s win over the Southern Jaguars, Anderson helped the Lady Tigers avenge the team’s setback in Baton Rouge with 14 kills on 19 attempts, good for a .579 hitting percentage. She also was part of seven total blocks against the Jaguars. The next day, Anderson set a TSU career-high with 16 kills on 30 attempts (hitting .379) and tallied four block assists against Grambling.
Defensive Player of the Week – Christen Augustine, Prairie View A&M

Augustine finished the weekend with 42 total digs as Prairie View A&M bolstered their tournament hopes with four-set victories over Grambling State and Southern. Augustine made 20 digs in the Lady Panthers’ victory over Grambling, adding a kill and dishing out four assists as well. Versus Southern, the junior netted 22 digs and put up three assists. Augustine had no ball-handling errors in the two matches.
Setter of the Week – Erica Jimenez

Jimenez had a career weekend in Prairie View A&M’s wins over Grambling State and Southern. The sophomore made 86 total assists across the two matches, dishing out 40 of them versus Grambling – which at the time was a career-best figure. Jimenez followed that up by surpassing her personal best total and delivering 46 assists as the Lady Panthers defeated Southern. The San Antonio, Texas native averaged 10.75 assists per set and chipped in 11 digs and seven kills as well.
