Abbott Elementary is an American sitcom television series created by Quinta Brunson for ABC.
In this workplace comedy, a group of teachers is brought together in a Philadelphia public school It stars Brunson as a second-grade teacher at Abbott Elementary. Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, and Sheryl Lee Ralph also star. The series premiered as a midseason entry in the 2021–22 television season on December 7, 2021.
Brunson has created a sure-fire hit that is using the television space in the form of comedy to tackle the age-old issue of public school teaching/education to address what is really going on in underperforming schools from what the students go through daily just to show up to learn or just to be safe, through teachers who will do whatever it takes to be able to do their job, not for the pay, but because they love teaching.
Not since ABC’s other original classroom series, Welcome Back Kotter has there been such a show that tries to keep the balance of the messaging with the comedy and leaves you wanting to talk about around the water cooler which in today’s world, would be Social Media.
This show has done a wonderful job of casting: The casting had to be on point and the characters had to be authentic, which meant they had to be played as stereotypical as possible to be believable. This cast is a true winner. Let’s not forget about the young talented Black and Brown actors/actresses who get their chance to shine.
Abbott Elementary is a remarkable show that will provide enough entertainment while at the same time getting folks to ta;l about the issues that teachers AND students go through.
The Series is on ABC with Streaming the next day on Hulu.
