Sometimes the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree at all. Indira Khan, aka I.Khan, began her musical career at an early age. The daughter of legendary singer Chaka Khan, the chanteuse started performing as a child, and was only a teen when she was signed to Motown as part of the act Pretty In Pink.
Indira went on to work with artists ranging from Johnny Gill to Miki Howard while also maintaining her solo career as a singer, songwriter, and actress (she played her mother in the TV One movie Love Under New Management).
Last fall, Khan teamed with producer Kannon “Caviar” Cross on the excellent single “LoveShip,” and it became a favorite among SoulTracks readers, Now the pair teams again for another gem, the new midtempo song, “Sea of Love.” Cross is all about interesting arrangements, and “Sea of Love” is no exception. Creative syncopation and instrumentation provide a strong background for Khan’s powerful vocals.
It is fun watching this young artist develop, delivering one great single after another. Check out “Sea of Love” and welcome I.Khan back to SoulTracks.
