In preparation to celebrate the new full-length album from Jonas, Be the Light, First Listen recently dropped props to the precious song of thanks for his wife. “You Are Amazing” praised Jonas’ ultimate best friend for her unwavering support behind the scenes, while he developed a two decade international career as the Godfather of Scandinavian Soul, working both as a solo artist and with other music greats ranging from John Legend and Macy Gray.
Be the Light often reflects Jonas’ plea for people to reconnect in an over-distracted society. And in our latest First Listen, we present “Turn Down the Noise,” a delicately soulful perspective speaking to those leaning – maybe too much – on technological comforts. Jonas deals with this difficult subject matter using production that pulls piano grooves and background voices that are easy on the ears. But the moral of “Turn Down the Noise” points to the lack of listening amidst the increasing loudness, which can create conflict beyond measure: “This digital life/Alternative news/And no one believes/An easy divide.”
Unquestionably, “Turn Down the Noise” showers knowledge on how trustworthy love towards our fellow man should be practiced. And Jonas’ maturation as a songwriter who cares how the world currently turns increases his artistic appeal. Take a listen!
