(August 20, 2021) Growing up just outside of Boston, Alexi Paraschos absorbed musical influences ranging from Kirk Franklin to D’Angelo. His formative professional experiences spanned penning a love song for an insurance company at which he worked and leading middle- and high-school choirs. The recent buzz from his retro-groovy “Mine” (and its accompanying music video structured from virtual weddings held during the COVID-19 pandemic) has listeners looking forward to his sophomore album, Love Odyssey.
Paraschos’ new single, “Distract Me,” is a breezy slice of acoustically driven midtempo soul on which his rich tenor phrasing and falsetto shine through with assistance from Chrisette Michele. Relatably relaying the challenges of staying centered in a romantic relationship amidst chaos in the surrounding world, Paraschos blends his vocal colors nicely with supple guitar strains and lightly funky percussion. Michele adds texture in the last verse, answering his concerns with a gently coaxing performance.
