At the ripe age of 19, Ed Green (Pras from the Grammy® Award-winning Fugees) is a dismal failure. Resigned to smoking and selling weed for Sadico, the local psychotic drug dealer, his world is turned upside down when Sadico’s sister pins her pregnancy on Ed and the dealer vows to kill him. Unsure of where to hide, Ed skips town and enrolls at a local college, where he masquerades as a student on track scholarship and does his best to blend in. Unfortunately, he’s also assigned to dorm room 420, with roommate “Bud” Carter (Aries Spears), who quickly becomes a negative influence making it hard not to fall back on old habits. Among Ed’s new hurdles off the track: he’s located by the Mexican gang, and he starts falling for campus beauty Lisa (Leila Arcieri) – though he’ll have to lure her away from her BMOC boyfriend, Craig (Hill Harper). The plot thickens when police detectives set up a sting operation to address the growing problem of drugs on campus, with everything adding up to one looming question for Ed: will his college career go up in smoke? Find out in HIGHER ED, the never-before-released first film from writer-director-producer Jean-Claude LaMarre, who celebrates two successful decades in Hollywood with numerous popular films and series including, Nora’s Hair Salon, Trapped, Color of the Cross and Pastor Jones.
Classic comedy movie! One of the few films that Aries Spears stars in; truly gifted with the comedy and would have loved to see more roles featuring Spears. Pras has shown that he had skills for acting and along with the music that he was doing, this showed promise for the young entertainer before all his legal drama started.
