Bulldogs Earn Clean Sweep over Elizabeth City State

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State Bulldogs (6-2, 5-3 CIAA) swept the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State Saturday afternoon in a tennis doubleheader. The Bulldogs claimed a 5-0 win in the opener which counted as a conference and division contest before capturing a 4-0 win in the non-conference tilt with ECSU at the BSU Tennis Courts.

BSU got off to a great start earning the doubles point with a 6-2 and 6-0 win at doubles 1 and 2 for the early 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas in singles competition with wins at the No. 2, 3, 4, and 6 positions. Sophomore Tamia Byrom (Upper Marlboro, MD) and freshman Aria Mason (Canton, MI) highlighted doubles with 6-0, 6-0 victories at the No. 3 and 4 singles.

The Bulldogs began the second match in a similar fashion, clinching the doubles point with a 6-2 and 6-0 win at doubles 1 and 2. Byrom picked up the 8-0 win at the No. 4 singles while freshman Denaij Rose (Bowie, MD) and senior Bianca Tucker (Edgewood, MD) all earned wins at the No. 5 and 6 positions.

Bowie State will return to action on Apr. 9 against Virginia State. The first service is slated for 12 noon.
