Lamone gives praise to his Brother “Kings”
We’ve been following talented singer and songwriter Lamone for a dozen years now, and we await everything he does with bated breath because it is always that good. It’s been a few years since we were vibing to his album Smooth, so we’re excited to announce that he is back with a new song that sounds as good as its powerful message.
“Born To Be A King” is Lamone’s letter to America, when our nation is reflecting on its values and its practices. With a Marvin-like falsetto – and a touch of Keni Burke thrown in – he celebrates the resilience of Black Men during a period in a troubled nation that has particularly tested them, whether it be from a pandemic or from a system that often oppresses.
Lamone says of the song, “We must remember that we are born into greatness! We are Men who are Fathers, Husbands, Sons, Brothers, Uncles, Nephews, and most of all, Men who are Kings!”
And while “Born To Be A King” certainly contains a powerful message, it stands apart musically, too, a blend of classic soul and modern groove that is tough to ignore.
We’re proud to present “Born To Be A King” as our newest SoulTracks Choice Cut, with double the pleasure. Check out both the original version and the “B2BAK Remix” version below, and welcome Lamone back to SoulTracks
